Continuing my journey to Tottori.
The route follows a fantastic coast line.
Short stop at a small fishing village along the route.
There is no more station staff here, the driver is responsible for everything.
A short break and change of trains in Hamasaka.
The station shows a map of the coastal geopark.
Another traveller has set up his dog on the local fountain for a photo.
This nice little station was the terminal of my previous train.
This train will finally take me to Tottori.
Several artists are showing their works near the Sand Dunes visitor center.
Unbelievable details have been carved out of the sand.
The artists have created fantastic sculptures.
But now I'm heading into the dunes.
Somehow it doesn't feel as if I am in Japan.
A small lake has formed behind some of the dunes.
Interesting shapes form from foot prints in the sand.
However it's pretty cool and windy in that place.
The surf looks great due to the strong wind though.
Sand waves created by the wind.
In areas where the wind is blowing really strong, only the tougher structures remain.
Even a delta flyer can be observed here.
The visitors to the dunes look like ants in the sand.
Some non-native inhabitants can be found here as well.
Such a camel really has a distinct head shape.
And the portrait is even more interesting.
It's frightening to see how much trash is washed ashore from distant countries.
Even sediments of volcanic ash can be found here.
My bike for today's excursion, thanks to the Hotel Resh in Tottori.
A nicely done bike route leads to the sand dunes.
I guess that this used to be a nice lookout.
The bike route manages steep slopes through easily manageable serpentines.

Only the foundation remains of Tottori castle.
Nice view over Tottori from the castle ruins.
A nice garden can be found behind the villa.
And invites for a relaxing moment drinking tea.
While you can let your thoughts drift away at this nice view.
